Pousada Maruba

Pousada Maruba is a sport fishing operation set on an exclusive island in the middle of Lake Balbina, the large reservoir formed by the damming of the Uatumã River in Presidente Figueiredo, Amazonas state. Position is the core asset: the island sits surrounded by the reservoir's signature dead-tree skeletons and gives direct access to the most productive fishing spots without long boat runs.

Access is overland from Manaus via the BR-174 highway to Ramal do Rumo Certo (about 165 km, 2h30 drive), then roughly 45 minutes by boat to the lodge. The lodge has 8 wooden suites, all with box mattresses, air conditioning, hot showers and full bed and bath linens — total capacity for 20 anglers. The compound features a new dining hall and kitchen, an integrated lakeside deck for post-fishing socializing, Starlink Wi-Fi and a Smart TV with cable sports channels.

The operation runs year-round on an all-inclusive basis: the Balbina reservoir is dammed and does not follow the flood/drought cycle of the floodplain rivers, which unlocks a 12-month season. The flagship species is the vazzoleri peacock bass — an aggressive, hard-fighting species typical of the lower Uatumã — complemented by paca peacock bass, arowana, freshwater croaker, wolf fish (traíra) and black piranha. Bass-style aluminum boats are powered by 15 hp outboards and equipped with life jackets, landing net, BogaGrip, measuring board and a 45 L Coleman cooler; fuel included. Rod and reel rental is available for travelers who fly light.

The team is staffed by native local guides with deep knowledge of the lake's hotspots and fish biology. Fishing days run 6 AM to 6 PM. Regional cuisine covers breakfast, lunch and dinner; the package also includes pilsner beer, soft drinks, water, ice, snacks, caipirinhas, cachaças and mixed drinks.

Packages range from 3 to 6 fishing days, priced per angler. The Manaus → Ramal do Rumo Certo ground transfer is a third-party service and is not included in the package — coordinate separately with the operation. The destination is especially attractive for groups of friends: the property comfortably hosts up to 20 anglers, with special rates for parties of more than 5 doubles.
